WALES REGION

Regional Contact member – Siwan Harries

Hope everyone is keeping well. Since my last Journal catch up we have had our biggest show of the Region which is the Royal Welsh Show. Despite low numbers the turnout of sheep was excellent and great to have new exhibitors attending the show . Congratulations to everyone that supported the show, a full report is included in this Journal. Next year the Royal Welsh Show will be held from the 22ND – 25TH July 2024.

Our Wales Region Sale was held on a different date this year, having moved the date forward a couple of week to encourage more sellers. Unfortunately, while we gained new sellers there were not the numbers we had hoped for . Thank you to everyone who supported it, our judge, John Dixon, and shadow judge, Owain Jenkins, and  to our auctioneers. We were fortunate enough to have the prize money kindly supported by Welsh Farm Supplies, a big thanks to them for continued support.

Members got a preview of the Parkway Hotel at Cwmbran when the regional meeting was held there in early October and combined with a judges’ seminar held by the Field Officer, Clive Richardson, and attended by both the chairman, John Emberton, and vice-chairman, Janet East, as well as many Welsh members and judges.

As this goes to print our region will be holding the flock competition.

Our next event will be the annual Christmas get to-gather on the 2nd December. Unfortunately, this Journal may not arrive before this event but I have emailed the regional members to let them know the AGM and dinner are going ahead this year at the Cottage Inn, Llandeilo. If you would like something brought up in the meeting the please let me know

Our 2024 plans will start by hosting the National  JSS Annual General Meeting weekend. We will be heading to the Parkway Hotel, Cwmbran, with a full weekend of flock visits planned. We will be holding some fun events and an auction If you would like to put an item in the auction then please do let me know as I’ll be advertising items on Facebook so that everyone can have a look and bid even if you can’t make the weekend. We are also looking for companies  or flocks to sponsor the weekend, if you’d like to know more get in touch. So save the date 26th-28th April, all members welcome to attend any part of the AGM weekend –  flock visits, 1 night and gala dinner, or book what you fancy . The booking leaflet will be included with the Journal. Rooms will be held from Thursday to Sunday as a discount rate until the end of January. Feel free to send me a picture of your booking form if paying by BACS. We hope many of you can support any part of the weekend .

At the moment we have no further plans for 2024. We will discuss more plans in the Wales AGM meeting in December. If you could host an open day then please  get in touch. My mobile is 07816440851 or e mail

Wishing you all a Happy New Year when the time arrives and good luck with lambing in 2024.
