SOUTH WEST REGION
Regional Contact Member – Richard Fenwick
We attended a hands-on practical Trimming Workshop in the Central Region before taking our first nervous steps into the show ring at The Royal Cornwall Show where we welcomed Nicola Fletcher as judge. She was very encouraging to all those present and was keen to convey how impressed she was by the standard of Jacob Sheep at the show. Well done South West!

We look forward to welcoming Jean Simmons (JSS President) and Kay Carpenter (Central Region Board Member) who will be judging this year’s South West Flock Competition which will take place 22-24 September. This is a great opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and to get some first-class advice about the management and future development of your flock. If you have not yet entered but are interested in taking part please contact me.
Plans for the Future
I am keen to organise some local meetings over the next few months and would be really grateful to hear from any members would be happy to host such an event. We will be kicking things off with a twilight get-together here at Lower Brocton on Thursday 28 September. There will be a chance to meet our small Camel Valley flock, have a look around the smallholding and share ideas, experiences and an early supper.
Who are we?
Finally, I thought you might like a few facts and statistics about the South West region. We have 93 members, 81 flocks and 2455 registered sheep spread across a number of counties as follows: Avon – 1,
Cornwall – 14, Devon – 37, Dorset – 14, Guernsey – 1, Somerset – 25. Please note that this will inevitably include a number of sheep which are now deceased and I would encourage members to keep their flock data up to date.
